Joel Steenstra was transferred to Sitka, Alaska in 2001 as a Flight Mechanic in the U.S. Coast Guard. Part of his duties was to fly over Prince of Wales Island regularly and he quickly fell in love with the beauty of the landscape and the abundance of wildlife he would see. When his enlistment ended in 2003, he moved from Sitka to Prince of Wales where he started a career as a fishing guide and commercial fisherman.
Joel has since started his own charter fishing business and lives in Craig year-round with his wife and three children. Joel’s children are a part of the Craig City School District and are also active in the local swim club and Karate. Along with Joel's charter business, he is also active within the community through the Craig City School Board & Craig Fish and Game Advisory Board. Joel is very well versed in the fishing available in Prince of Wales and has logged over 1,500 guide days on the ocean. He loves talking about the outdoor opportunities available on Prince of Wales to people interested in moving there. He is also an avid hunter and travels from Craig by boat to other islands to hunt.
Joel stands by Prince of Wales as an absolute great place to raise a family. It's remote but offers good availability to goods and services, a vast road system, with much of it paved, an abundance of fish and game, and many trails, cabins, and canoe routes! Joel is eager to share his extensive knowledge of POW and to help you in your real estate venture!
